The Middle River Regional jail is currently accepting internal/external applications for the position of:
Title: Information Technology Technician
Location: 350 Technology Drive, Staunton, Virginia 24402
Status: Full-time
Starting Salary: $53,137 - $63,500
Grade: 11
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Manage and assist technology users within the jail, public, and related community partners
-
Assist in maintaining all Jail technology systems including servers, firewalls, backups, security/surveillance, administrative, and inmate networks and peripherals
-
Assist in the coordination of contract services and vendors relating to technology in the facility
-
Compile, maintain, and establish required files for the jail as well as mandated Jail, State, and/or Federal reports
-
Participate in meetings with management
-
Perform and maintain backups of systems
-
Maintain Active Directory
-
Crystal Reports and database reporting in coordination with vendors
-
Assist with investigations of incidents involving assigned area
-
Compile statistical data as required by management and/or policy
-
Perform additional duties or assignments by the Superintendent and/or supervisor
-
Daily end-user support for multiple systems, including administrative, security and inmates
TRAINING, EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE:
-
At least two years experience in government information technology; OR, an Associate Degree / Career Studies Certificate from an accredited college or university with a major course emphasis on Information Technology, Information Security, Networking, Data analysis, or related fields; OR, training and experience within the information technology field commensurate with those qualifications

Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted

Thorough experience in information technology with public, private, or military agency
-
American Heart Association (AHA) First Aid / CPR certified or become after employment
DESIRED CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:

Basic troubleshooting skills

Excellent interpersonal communication skills

A willingness to learn

Previous experience maintaining Active Directory

Previous experience with Meraki and Ubiquiti network equipment and management
BASIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to think and act quickly in medical, fire, and other emergency situations

Thorough knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws
-
Knowledge of community resources, both public and private
-
Ability to use discretion when dealing with sensitive information in the course of duties
-
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
-
Ability to obtain and analyze statistical data
-
Ability to interpret court orders
-
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
-
Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with staff, inmates, and public
-
Ability to coordinate activities in their assigned area
-
Ability to use and manage applicable computer software/programs
